DTotD: De Jong breaks Ben Arfa's leg, gets dropped by Holland

On Sunday, Nigel De Jong De-Jonged Hatem Ben Arfa mere minutes into Man City's 2-1 win over Newcastle, breaking Ben Arfa's leg (video of the tackle follows the refresher on De Jong's World Cup final kung fu). On Monday, Netherlands manager Bert van Marwijk dropped De Jong from his squad as he finally realized that it's not cool when De Jong does this kind of thing.

From the Guardian:

Van Marwijk said he saw "no alternative" but to remove De Jong from his squad to play Moldova and Sweden in the upcoming Euro 2010 qualifiers. [...]

"I've seen the pictures back," Van Marwijk added in the Algemeen Dagblad newspaper. "It was a wild and unnecessary offence. He went in much too hard. It is unfortunate, especially since he does not need to do it.

"The funny thing is that the referee did not even show a yellow card for it. Apparently, there are other standards. But I have a problem with the way Nigel needlessly looks to push the limit. I am going to speak to him."

Trying to put his foot through Xabi Alonso's chest or nearly crippling Stuart Holden while wearing a Netherlands shirt apparently wasn't enough for van Marwijk. Nope. But seeing pictures of this? It's time for a heart-to-heart. Or heart-to-heartless.
